Rattletree is a high energy dance and trance band that plays traditional and contemporary Zimbabwean music on several home-made marimbas. They are a six-piece group with three soprano marimbas, a baritone marimba, drumset, and the towering six-foot tall bass marimba. All the members sing and also play various percussion. The Director, Joel Laviolette, has played Zimbabwean music for 15 years, and lived and toured with Zimbabwe's top stars in Zimbabwe before relocating to Austin and forming his own group. All the instruments are built by Joel. Rattletree Marimba recently completed their live Debut EP coincidently called "Live EP" and is released on Mhumhi Records. They are quickly becoming an institution for Austin venues that want their crowd dancing.
