"The Sweet Lady with The Nasty Voice" tells the little-known story of 70-year-old female rock 'n' roll pioneer Wanda Jackson. Filmmakers Joanne Fish and Vincent Kralyevich gained unprecedented access to Jackson and secured original interviews with Elvis Costello, Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen, Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead, Slim Jim Phantom of The Stray Cats, and Terry Stewart, President of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.In the film, Fish and Kralyevich document a 2-year journey with Jackson and husband/manager Wendell Goodman as Jackson performs across the United States and Europe. Part of the film stops in Asbury Park, New Jersey where Patti Scialfa and Bruce SpringsteenÑtwo of Wanda's biggest fansÑmake a surprise appearance at a gig she plays in a bowling alley. The many performers Jackson toured with, highlighted with never before seen pictures and footage, include: Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis. Presley, whom Jackson dated, was influential in Jackson's choice to move from country music to the male-dominated world of rock 'n' roll. Another Elvis, Elvis Costello, is an outspoken advocate of inducting Jackson into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In the film, Elvis Costello tells the audience in the film, 'You can hear lots of rocking girl singers who owe an unconscious debt to a woman like Wanda. She was standing up on stage with a guitar in her hand while other gals were still asking, 'How much is that doggy in the window?'''Few people know how Wanda opened the door for women to front rock 'n' roll bands' said Kralyevich. 'By being herself, Wanda unsuspectingly empowered female rockers to be in control, to be sexy, and to pen their own rock 'n' roll songs.''Our film takes the audience from the very beginning of Jackson's rock 'n' roll career to present day,' said Fish. 'Wanda likes to shock people and so is still relevant in the music world todayÑour hope this film will finally get her inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.'
