Since the band's 2003 formation, Make A Rising has grown from a local oddity to a Philadelphia cult fave to a band with fans around the world eagerly anticipating its second album. Spawned from the wild world of West Philadelphia that has also birthed such curious bands as Man Man, Normal Love, Dr. Dog, and Need New Body. Rip Through the Hawk Black Night, the band’s debut record is a swirling mix of violin, keyboard, guitars, drums, saxophone, trumpet, bells, whistles, and assorted noisemakers – all swelling together for subversively addictive pop gems. Its 2005 release on High Two earned it rave reviews from at least four continents. With orchestral crescendos combined with off-kilter vocals and fast-changing tempos Make A Rising is the sound of chaos, bliss, bravado, nerves and naivety – avant chamber rock at its most dynamic – like Daniel Johnston singing Beach Boys songs interpreted by Naked City. Since the release of Rip Through..., Make A Rising has expanded to sextet and recorded its follow-up album, Infinite Ellipse and Head With Open Fontanel, to be released on High Two in March 2008.
