Hymns are built on a musical relationship more than a decade old. Brian Harding (vocals/guitar) and Jason Roberts (guitar/piano) met in the fifth grade, and have been playing in bands together ever since. A move from North Carolina to Brooklyn and the addition of Tony Kent (drums) and Matt Shaw (bass) cemented the formation of a band that marries Pavement to Neil Young with the twang of Gram, and the drive of Spoon. Hymns recorded their first album, Brother/Sister in Celeste, TX (pop. 756) at The Vault, a former bank converted into a full working studio. The band's resulting album has been called everything from "dreamy west coast folk," to "one of the most surprising albums this year." The Deli Magazine says, "You will kick yourself if you are not the first person you know to have this album." Following the release of 'Brother/Sister', Hymns hit the road, touring and playing shows with acts like Ben Kweller, The Lemonheads, Vietnam, Sam Roberts Band, Los Lobos, Hot Hot Heat, Butch Walker, and Beck. Hymns also played a successful run of shows at SXSW 2006, including a show with the Faint at Eternal. Hymns have just finished their sophomore album, 'Travel In Herds', which will be released in early March 2008. The sound of the new LP is exciting and fresh, blending horns, pump organs, saxophones, and harmonies, yet still remains faithful to the original Hymns sound.
