While much of the focus on Texas DJs lies in the slowed down pace of Houston, central Texas is slowly becoming known for its own mix master, Waco’s DJ Wrecka. Starting out in 2005 with simply a desire to remix his favorite tracks, constant practice and a knack for getting his music to the people by any means possible eventually led Mike Moe, head of Houston based Beltway 8 Records, to take notice, making Wrecka his official DJ. Boasting a live show resumé that includes Waco, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and numerous small towns throughout the state, he has broken the mold of the typical Texas DJ. Striving to leave listeners with a “What will he do next?” feeling, DJ Wrecka regularly mixes with genres outside of hip-hop, utilizing classic material from artists such as The Beatles, the Bee Gees, Led Zeppelin, and Funkadelic. While many DJs place quantity over quality, DJ Wrecka has been able to achieve a balance of both, putting out acclaimed projects with Beltway 8 such as the “Live From The Streets” series, the “Live From The Bedroom” series, “Live From Houston”, and “Live From Port Arthur”. His extensive discography has seen him work with Texas legends such as Lil’ O, K-Rino, Scarface, Wossness, and UGK. He has also put his touch on nationwide albums from artists like Big Pokey, Big Moe, and Street Military, in addition to countless Wrecked & Chopped versions of local artist’s releases. Upcoming releases in the works include projects from the Underground Rap League, E.S.G. & Big Pokey, and more volumes of the “Live From…” series.
