After gaining critical notice in the bands Fire Engine Red and National Dust, Calgary-based singer-songwriter Lorrie Matheson began his foray into a solo career in 2002 with the release of You Should Know By Now, a journey from Brill Building pop to flat-out rock. It was followed up by the 2004 release A Dime At A Time, recorded at his home studio and at the fabled Sundae Sound Studios. A Dime At A Time was recognized with a 2005 Western Canadian Music Award Nomination for Outstanding Independent Album. His newest recording, to be released on the Saved By Radio imprint later this year is entitled "In Vein", and features nine songs, running the gamut from lush, arranged pop to spare acoustic meditations on life, love, death and addiction. Since 2002, Matheson has also added producing to his resume, working with such diverse groups as free-jazz combo The Bent Spoon Ensemble (None Nothing, Sometimes) and raucous roots band Ghostkeeper (Children of the Great Northern Muskeg).
