Throw Me The Statue is not your average pop band. The Seattle-based band's debut album, Moonbeams, is a wondrous affair - a dazzling concoction of confident indie pop that packs a wallop with its huge hooks, heart-felt lyrics, and quirky production. Fronted and conceived by Scott Reitherman, Throw Me The Statue showcases a broad sonic range on Moonbeams, it runs the gamut of high-energy rock to insular reverb-drenched pop. At its core is a sharp sense of melody, a cutting lyrical honesty, and a bludgeoning lo-fi beat that makes you want to drive around with your windows down. The album brings to mind the whimsy of Magnetic Fields, the deft lyrical eye of the Damien Jurado, and the playful homegrown production of Guided By Voices. Following his post-college move to Seattle, Reitherman was influenced and inspired by the music scene of the Pacific Northwest. "Some of the seminal NW indie bands started to really turn me on, and then it felt like I discovered a whole new world when I heard The Microphones/Mount Eerie. At that point I really felt like I had reached some sort of transformation with my musical thought, that moment you get to when you sort of realize there's a more honest and accurate guide book lying around that you hadn't read yet.". Reitherman has rounded up a group of talented musician friends from in and around the Northwest for his live band, aiming to give Moonbeams an extra shot of adrenaline onstage.
