Biography Debut album ”You’re in the painting you saw”, release: the 31. March 2008. Lily Electric was formed in the spring of 2005, at a magical rehearsal in Copenhagen. After rehearsing for 3 months we recorded our first EP “Lily Electric”. In the fall we wrote a lot of new songs and played our first concerts at Copenhagen venues. Soon we knew that we worked and played ekstremely well together and were able to write songs collectively. In March 2006 we rented a summerhouse ou in the countryside of Denmark, borrowed a tapemachine, microphones and stuff from our friends and made the house into a small studio. In 8 days we recorded “8 song minialbum”, which we released on vinyl and download via our newborn record label “Joyboy Records”. “8 song minialbum” was released in August 2006. Our 1st single “Naughty Girl” was in a high rotation on national radio P3 over the summer. With our newly released album in the luggage, we moved to Berlin to try out the german audience, and to see what would happen artistically when meeting each other and Europas culturemekka. Through a longer period we’d wanted to dedicate ourselves to the band and the music 100%. We were convinced we had the potential and energy to make our musical dreams into reality. We were eager to find out how the meeting with Berlin and a different environment would affect our music. We wanted to do something drastic. In September we stopped our studies in Copenhagen, said goodbye to friends and family and went south. After a week, we played our first concert in Berlin, and in that fall we were active live in Germany ( Berlin, Bochum, Köln, Cottbus, Greifswald), Denmark ( supporting The Kooks in Vega, getting a P3 Gold nomination for best young Danish talent) and in Latvia, where we’d been invited by the Danish cultural institute in Riga. We did a 4-day tour in Baltic with concerts, a live tv-performance and Russian vodka. After having found apartments in Berlin, we went looking for a rehearsal room/studio where we could use all of our new freetime. After a short month, we found what we were looking for at the old DDR main radio station, which now stands empty after the closure in 1989. The radio station is directly on the riverside of Spree and keeps safe a lot of radio studios where, a.o. the Berliner Philharmony Orchestra have rehearsed. Also bands like, Kaizers Orchestra, Rufus Wainwright and Phoenix sometimes stop by to record their albums in the great big studio of Planet Roc, which is a part of the DDR radiocomplex. When we didn´t rehearse, play concerts or spend time in the studio, we biked around the city to book gigs in some of the many small and interesting clubs Berlin has, like nowhere else today. We have furnished a studio/kitchen/tabletennisroom/rehearsal room in the old doctors clinic at the radio complex. Here, during winter 2007, we wrote and recorded new sketches and new songs for our debut album. In March 2007 we received the Mymusic grant of 25.000,- d.kr. and a Danish summer festival tour. The 25.000 we spent on a gas-swallowing handballbus, which took us around Denmark and Germany on the springfestivals. Latest, it has taken us safely to and back from London. In June 2007 we began the recordings of our debutalbum in studio P1 at the radio station in Berlin. Collaborating with our friend, the young Danish producer Mikkel Holtoug, and the german technician Marco Birkner, we recorded 13 songs over the summer, while we toured the Danish festivals. In September 2007, we were offered to participate in the Ramp Music sponsorship as one of three selected bands to compete about winning 1.mio d.kr. for promotion and marketing. Via a homepage, the public could vote for whomever they wanted to win. We won the sponsorship in the end of November. In October we drove the bus to London to play two concerts at Huxton Square Bar and The Fly, and to meet with mixer/producer Dimitri Tikovoi ( John Cale, The Horrors, Placebo etc.) who was going to mix our album. The debut ”You´re in the painting you saw” was mixed in october/november in The Bedroom Studio, London and mastered by Tim Young, Metropolis, London ( The Clash, The Smiths, Björk etc.) end November. The album will be released in Denmark on the 31/3 on our own label “Joyboy Records” and distributed by Target Distribution.
