A SXSW performance not to be missed! Jamaican songstress Cherine Anderson has already recorded with artists including Wyclef Jean, Sting, Paul McCartney, Britney Spears, Fat Joe, Bootsy Collins, Michael Franti and Beenie Man - and she has yet to drop her first album. A protege of legendary drum n bass duo Sly & Robbie since the age of 15, this young beauty (and acclaimed Jamaican actress) conjures up thoughts of Lauryn Hill in her prime. But Cherine's sound is all her own. Dubbed 'Dancehall Soul', Cherine's music is a mixture of all the genres she loves and has been inspired by - dancehall, reggae, r&b, and soul - all rolled into one powerful package. Her range as an artist and songwriter are as diverse as the artists she has already had the pleasure to work with; from writing about her home's volatile political state in "Kingston State of Mind" to giving you some "Good Love". Cherine has been busy building momentum to the release of her debut cd (Summer 2008) by touring with Sly & Robbie, writing and recording with other artists and crafting her 'Dancehall Soul' sound. Fans have recently gotten a taste of what's to come with this talented singer/songwriter with the release of her mixtape 'Street Anthems'. Hosted by Rory of Stone Love, the mix (available as FREE download through her myspace page: www.myspace.com/cherineanderson ) features artists including Wyclef, Britney Spears and David Rodigan. After catching Cherine perform live as part of a sold out Hollywood Bowl crowd of over 17,000, blogger Martin Wong may have described Cherine best, "Cherine Anderson had the full package, with an amazing voice and stage presence. She came out with "Redemption Song" and pretty much killed it through the remainder of the set. Is she a star yet?"
