Sahara Smith was born in Austin, Texas in 1988. Later, she moved to the small town of Wimberley where she still lives today. Steeped in the magic of the hill country, Sahara started writing songs at age nine and began performing locally when she was fourteen. At fifteen, she won a nationwide contest to perform on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion on PBS. On the “live” show she won the Second Place Trophy (missing first place by a fraction of a decibel of audience applause) and was invited to sing a duet with Mr. Keillor. Now nineteen, Sahara's haunting voice and searing images make her a stunning new talent. She is looking to star in her second consecutive SXSW showcase.
