The Black first appeared on Austin stages in 2002. The group then released its debut, Tanglewood, in 2005 and embarked on a tour of Europe, Canada and the United States with And You Will Know us by the Trail of Dead. The follow-up to Tanglewood, the Donna EP, was released in 2007. This EP was recorded in one afternoon, live in the studio and without overdubs by Erik Wofford (Voxtrot, Black Angels, Octopus Project). Members of Voxtrot appeared on the recording. The Black has shared the stage/road/studio with members of Pink Nasty, Voxtrot, SoundTeam, Trail of Dead, Knife in the Water and Peter and the Wolf. Extensive touring has led them through the bars, living rooms and galleries of the nation. 2008 will see the release of new material and a spring tour of the west coast with the Golden Boys. "...breathes new life into Americana with tinges of rockabilly, Stax soul, and ramshackle folk on Tanglewood..."--Doug Freeman, Austin Chronicle "Weaving a spell of disjointed guitar pop hypnotizing in its interplay and charming in its simplicity. Straight Americana and 60's British Invasion sounds, twisted, filtered, spit out shiny and unique."--Rank and Revue Magazine "By being able to find the formula for wry-sounding rock n' roll that works in tandem with bluesy lyricism, The Black's sound is of a band destined to make some serious impressions on fans and enthusiasts."—The Daily Texan XL Recommended - The Black: The band's 'Donna' EP hit our ears a little too late for serious consideration on our local year-end lists, but it's a pretty outstanding mix of garage rock riffs, Dylan '66 energy and hooks straight out of the Kinks.--Austin American Statesman convince them they're the heir to a mode of existence, or an aging circus elephant, for a few moments they believed in something extraordinary, absolute presence! & perhaps Later they will come to realize 5000 square miles of Antarctica driven as a result to seek out enormous, useless & amazing fortune - experienced a revelation or had a particularly fulfilling sexual experience, etc...chains you thought were broken never existed! it is an act in a Theater of orphanage in Bombay, which has no stage, Pick someone at random no rows of seats, no tickets & no walls.--From Austinsound.net interview
