“CUENTOS CHINOS PARA NIÑOS DEL JAPÓN” Chinese Tales for Japanese kids Released April 30th 2007 Band members: Santi Balmes (Vox, Guitars) Jordi Roig (Guitars) Joanra Planell (Bass) Uri Bonet (drums, percussion) Julián Saldarriaga (Accoustic guitar, guitars, backing vocals) Produced by Ricky Falkner Love of Lesbian is a spanish pop band. Their first three albums are sung in English, but their more acclaimed album is Maniobras de Escapismo (2005), sung in Spanish. Influences of Radiohead, The Cure and R.E.M. and excellent lyrics with a delicious sense of humor. This “Chinese tales…” is its 5th album recorded and 2nd one is Spanish and consolidates the recognition and popularity of the band. Approaching already the 10th anniversary of the band’s foundation, when their first album was released and the band, very amateur, was picked personally by Robert Smith (The Cure) to open during the Tour the British band was doing in Spain in the late 90´s. This debut album with excellent reviews on the most independent media of the country encouraged the band to follow the career and publish 2 more records in English. The band always has a respected spot among those medias but remains very underground still. 2004 turns into a crucial year; the band decides to move forward and squeeze one of its best qualities, the lyrics. So far, the respect was there but, many people was missing this quality due the fact the recordings were all in English; therefore, that year they start to work on its first album completely in Spanish named “Maniobras de Escapismo” (Escapism Manoeuvres) which is published in the spring time of 2005. The response is immediate and the band starts to gain the recognition all over the country of new fans that really find the lyrics of the band, fresh, inspiring and so identifying with each one’s personal routines. Record sales and Tours gain addicts and become a band very well respected and followed. The status of the band changes clearly finding themselves, 2 years later, in a position where the amount of fans have had increased strongly and constantly through record sales and live shows, therefore the band faces the challenge to produce a strong new record in Spanish and not disappointing them. “Cuentos Chinos para niños del Japón” is released in Spring 2007 and it is produced again by Falkner and recorded at the same studios. The result is so encouraging and the reaction is extraordinary, it gets obviously compared to the previous one but the feed back is so positive and in 5 months time, the record reaches the sales of the one edited in 2005 and the Tour dates jump in quantity and quality venues with a very fluent attending and some sold out venues. Love of Lesbian, reaches us in a more personal, crystal clear way, thanks to these lyrics that play the perfect role between the precise metaphor and the wounding truth. Santi Balmes (singer and composer) expresses and the message touches you. Not less, no more. It is the victory of the lack of love, the continuous feeling of loss, the tragic comedy of all our lives, and why not? – Crumbs of hilarious humour. Love of Lesbian has performed over the years in the most prestigious Festivals in Spain: BAM Festival (1997, 2002, 2007) Doctor Music Festival (1998) The Cure Dream Tour 2000. FIB (Benicàssim) (2003, 2005) Primavera Sound (2004) POPKOMM Berlin (2005)
