Choklate emerged on the Soul scene in 2006 with a self titled debut album that received both national and international acclaim. She toured the country leaving it all on the stage in each and every city, winning fans over with her honest and down to the ground approach to the music and meeting those who had a love for it. Her stage show is an experience for the audience member, of being right there, at the moment of conception, right when; whatever the song is about, actually happens. Choklate's performance isn't of the songs but rather the experience that led to the writing of the lyrics of each song. The music is definately Soul but with an extremely deep rooting in hip hop. One author once said..."There was a marriage of hip hop and r&b in the 90's and Choklate is the child of that marriage". The live show however often takes detours toward rock and jazz. Her lyrics have been dubbed "the state in which we all wish r&b would have grown up to be". Each song has it's own entricate detail and weaving so as to not only tell or sing the story but aid those who are witnessing it live, to FEEL the experience.
