Melbourne artist Whitley has captured the hearts and minds of Australia with his debut album The Submarine. Whitley seamlessly blends organic acoustic flavours with electronic overtones creating songs with hushed, whimsical tales of love and loss. Now he takes his special blend of folktronica complete with heart-rending ballads tinged with rock and electronic undertones to the rest of the world. Whitley has sold out his album launch shows across the nation as well as supporting the likes of Calexico, Josh Pyke and The Panics. His singles jumped straight onto high rotation on the flagship national radio station, Triple J, and critical acclaim has flowed. “It’s an intelligent and essential musical companion for the broken-hearted, those stuck in a rut, or those without companions!” 4 stars Caroline Tran, JMag “Almost neo-folk in a sense, The Submarine is a warm, soothing listen, revealing yet another talented emerging Australian singer-songwriter.” Justin Grey, Time Off. “Whitley sings with an almost wistful, yearning warmth that has echoes of ‘60s folk, the kind where a polite veneer hides a depth of feeling.” Bill Holdsworth, Rave Magazine. Whitley is fast becoming one of the next crop of Australian artists to come to the forefront. Early indications from international counterparts similarly hold him in high esteem. The future is indeed bright for this young Melbourne man.
