Clipd Beaks was formed in 2003 in Minneapolis, Minnesota when four longtime friends who previously played in two separate bands joined forces to take over the world. Abandoning the guitar-based format of their previous endeavors, they established a thick sound defined by analog synth drones, propulsive beats, and layered vocals delivered in the ecstatic tones of a street preacher. Experiments with lo-fi sampling and ambient loops soon brought their creations to an even higher transcendent plane. That summer, they moved into a Victorian mansion, which they converted into a recording studio known as Boyzone, and began to play shows around the Twin Cities. After a lot of heckling and numerous noise complaints, they realized it was time to spread their wings and commence their migration to a mystic land they called Funktown, a.k.a. Oakland, California. In between packing their bags and saying their goodbyes they managed to find enough time to record their debut E.P. Preyers, which was released on Tigebeat6 in March of 2006. After settling in Oakland, Clipd Beaks got to work creating their first full length album – Hoarse Lords. Influenced by hobo culture, the drugged-up hyphy sounds currently dominating Bay Area airwaves, and underground Neu San Francisco warehouse parties where techno bangers fade into tribal noise jams, everything on Hoarse Lords is turned up to 11. Harsh and distorted, it is a fitting new sound for a band that references clipping in their name, and feels every bit as sick and violent as a severed, bleeding beak. Having already toured the US and Canada for 2 months in the spring of 2007, the flock is taking flight once again, with plans to settle in Los Angeles already underway. Hoarse Lords will be released by Lovepump United on November 6th.
