We suppose you want to know the ‘de rigueur’ history first. The band grew up, the band met, the band played and voila! Look at them now!!! Okay, let’s get it over and done with because Furthest Drive Home, who usually refer to themselves as FDH (because “it’s so street,” they cackle sarcastically) have much more than a back story on offer with deceptively complicated pop-rock that has stadium-sized ambitions. FDH are Joe (guitar/keys and lead vox), James (drums), Jim (bass) and Tommy H (guitar), bright eyed, tight-knit and hailing from the green belt that is Surrey, UK. It all started back in 2005, when the band averaged the age of 15 at a ‘Battle of the bands’ in the local town of Guildford. Did they win? Well no, but they got hooked on the live bug and a few hundred shows later, including some high profile support slots, caused excited babblings from reviewers from Rocksound through to Metal Hammer who called them “The UKs brightest cross over hopes”. Early influences include MUSE, Nirvana, Queen and Ultravox. They may be partial to creating a vast rock epic, but their ‘poppier’ sensibilities keep the music tight and with enough jerk and jangle to please anyone with a 30 second attention span. June 2007 saw the release of their debut mini album ‘The Complete First Series’ on London indie label ‘Hungry Kid’ (Dustins Bar Mitzvah, Winterkids). Furthest Drive Home have been one of the hottest UK unsigned acts for the last few years and have at last brought their addictive mix of polished pop rock, lo-fi disco electronics and theatrical pomposity to the masses. The band has had over 700,000 MySpace plays, reached the dizzy heights at the top of the MTV2 charts achieving #2 of both the rock chart and viewers voting chart, as well as being in their top 100 videos of 2007! Further support has come from Kerrang TV, XFM, BBC radio and more for which they have had songs and videos playlisted. FDH are now currently demoing and writing songs for their debut full length album. They seem to have really found the sound they are after with studio and live reports describing the new songs as ‘epic-pop-rock’ and ‘stadium like’. Exciting times lie ahead.
