Multiple personality types cross our virtual community doorsteps daily. Some stay, some go and sometimes we wish some of those who do stay would find another place to go. There's the pesky overachiever type or "know it all" who seems to rub everyone the wrong way. Then along comes the antagonist, who argues with anyone who will bite the bait, just for sport. The "noob" who doesn't bother to learn the culture (or read the community guidelines) and has "hoof in mouth syndrome." The truly interested visitor who asks an innocent question, ending in a battle of the wits. The devoted type, who basically create careers as community members and are logged in 16 hours a day. The list is endless. We will discuss how to engage and appreciate (almost) all personality types (in all age groups) within your community to help build a diverse, active and loyal membership. We will also address the value of each personality type to your community, including the seemingly inactive and generally under-appreciated lurker, who is vital to every community success story. Long live the lurker! We find no intrinsic value in trolls so there will be no discussion time wasted on trolls. Leave them to lurk under public bridges and annoy fictional characters, is our creed.
