Given the length of time Emmy The Great has been a leading light of the anti-folk (/nu-folk /new-wave-female-singer-songwriter) scene in the UK, its surprising to hear she's still only 23 years old. After 2 years of collaborations (Fyfe Dangerfield, Lightspeed Champion, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Jeremy Warmsley) & touring with the likes of Jamie T, Tilly And The Wall, Martha Wainwright and Bright Eyes, as well as headlining her own shows, Emmy has built up a formidable fanbase. Within a day of posting release details on her myspace page, she had racked up over 300 pre-orders for ‘My Bad’, her debut EP, which eventually sold out after 2 days of release. Her debut EP ‘My Bad’ is something of a statement of intent for Emmy. It includes four new songs recorded in her home with various collaborators and friends. It’s a perfect introduction to Emmy’s acerbic wit and sizeable potential for those less in the know. The recordings are imperfect and the production simple. But that was always the intention - the intimacy of the recording combined with the simplicity of the songs, produces something more powerful than any studio recording ever could. After more live dates at the beginning of the year, Emmy will start recording her full-length debut in Spring ready for release later in the year.
