Guitarmony-laden Blackholicus carries into its sixth year as an Austin Red River metal band, hoping to bring with it a dab of brains to metal’s brawn. Their new album, “Megaforte,” which has not yet been released, is a thesis by guitarists Domenic Schiera and Michael Nelsen addressing the finer points of badass metal tonality. The four-piece Austin mainstay self-released its debut album “Variations in Death Minor” in 2006, which celebrates an era when metal guitar tones were clean, musical and drenched with power rather than drowned in cheap distortion. With the five-foot tall frontwoman and bassist Margaret Myrick (Miss June of She Rocks 2007 calendar) and heavy-footed drummer Spencer Swietek, Blackholicus satisfies the metal fan seeking quality, class and misanthropic fury.
