In one shape or form, Mittens on Strings has been around since the summer of 2001. But it's only been within the last year that they've actually live in the same city. Now based in Chicago, the current quintet called Mittens on Strings is a band you would like to bring home for dinner. Sure, they play rock music, but with strings, mandolin, keyboards, and enough voices to get the party going. It's kinda folky and kinda weird while keeping its wits about it. "Familiar yet inventive, smart-ass yet endearing" (says Pitchfork), they'll charm the folks while they wink at your cousin. In the past year, Mittens on Strings has play shows with Grizzly Bear, the Dirty Projectors, Frog Eyes, the Yeasayer, White Magic; made their second South by Southwest appearance; received a swell write up in Pitchfork; and worked on a brand new record. As yet untitled, this album is the culmination of two years of perseverance and vision. Scattered across the states, these songs were written apart and arranged in the moments when everyone could be together. Reflected is both the joy of communion and the introspection of separation. It will be the follow-up to 'Look Up the Sky!!', released September 2006 by Emperor Jones.
