Ume’s cathartic assault will catch you by surprise and beckon you back for more. This explosive Austin trio – consisting of Lauren Langner Larson on guitar and vocals, Eric Larson on bass, and Jeff Barrera on drums – have been said to put more of themselves out on the stage in a single night than countless bands do in a career. Their music is a unique and powerful blend of punk-inspired rock, alluring pop, and beautiful intensity. At the center are the fiery emanations and unrivaled guitar riffs of a front-woman recently described as “the most promising female voice to smack the indie rock world in years” (indyweek.com). While playing in Brooklyn in 2004, Ume's live act caught the eye of the NYC label Pretty Activity, who released their debut album, "Urgent Sea," in 2005. Their captivating live show and boundary-breaking sound have enabled Ume to share the stage with such diverse acts as Arcade Fire, The Fall, Be Your Own Pet, Oneida, What Made Milwaukee Famous, and Magnolia Electric Co. Ume has also played the 2005, 2006, and 2007 CMJ music festivals, 2007 Wall of Sound Festival, and SXSW 2005 and 2006. Ume is currently preparing to record their sophomore full length with acclaimed producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon and ..Trail of Dead). The end result is to be unleashed 2008.
