Woodpigeon are a supergroup of Calgarians, eight officially (maxing out at 14 with guests), playing Mark Hamilton's episodic orchestral pop concoctions. Influences range from The Kinks and Donovan to Belle & Sebastian and Iron & Wine. Woodpigeon grew and swelled from earnest beginnings in Edinburgh, at that time an all-instrumental project called Woodpigeon/Antelope=Squirrel. After re-locating to Calgary, the earliest Woodpigeon shows typically ended with another friend (old or new) asking if they could join and play along. The goal's always remained making beautiful music, and the results so far have not only pleased us, but received great reviews from Canadian media (4/5 reviews in Now Toronto, The Montreal Mirror, The Edmonton Sun, See Magazine, and 'Essential Track' mention in The Globe and Mail) and reached as high as #5 on Earshot's national independent radio airplay charts. Woodpigeon also placed third in FFWD magazine's 2006 Year in Review issue (after Gnarls Barkley and TV on the Radio) as voted on by Calgary critics. Collaborations have included work with Aaron Booth (with whom we record and perform on occasion as Pigeonbooth, and later P.Jane.Booth alongside Jane Vain), Sandro Perri, The Summerlad, Jane Vain & The Beautiful Creep Cabaret, The Jagatha Christies, Eagleowl (based in Edinburgh), Ladybird, Brooker Buckingham, and Spreepark. Vitaminsforyou (Toronto), The Marshall Stax (Edmonton), 300baud (Calgary), and myownbiggestfan (Tokyo) have all also completed remixes for future release. Woodpigeon has opened for artists as varied as Broken Social Scene, The Constantines, The Russian Futurists, and Ron Sexsmith, and has performed at high-profile shows at Pop Montreal, NXNE, Sled Island, and The End of the Road Festival in Dorset, UK.
