The Hong Kong Blood Opera was formed in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora in the year 2006 as a result of former projects, such as the hardcore band "The Noise Cabaret" (2005-2006) and the experimental "... En La Orilla De La Utopia" (2003-2005), both bands integrated by most of the current members of HKBO. Coming from Hermosillo, a close-to-the-border town known for it's lack of musical movement other than traditional "banda" and "norteño" music, The HKBO along with other few punk, post-rock and electronic artists have initiated one of the most interesting underground scenes of independent music in the country, although in it's most it's usually ignored by national media. As a freshly created band, HKBO started with local and nearby appearances obtaining a positive response due to their unusual energetic live performances and despite their peculiar sound which involves several musical styles to which they simply define themselves as a Punk band. In late 2006 HKBO wins the national contest Rockampeonato Telcel competing against 7000 bands from all over the country. The final took place in the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City performing the song "Hear Your Scream". The jury was integrated by some of Mexico's most renowned rock artists such as Zoe, Los Dynamite and Chetes. Throughout 2007 HBKO has been performing as part of important musical festivals such as MX Beat where they shared stage with Dj Mehdi, Panico and The Whitest Boy Alive. They were also the opening band for AFI's 2007 concert in Mexico City and have played along the country with Plastilina Mosh, Whitey, Zoe and División Minúscula. HKBO goes into de studio in mids 2007 for the debut "The Critical Paparazzi EP" under Noiselab and produced by Yamil Rezc (Sub-División, Morbo) and which first single is "Killing Joke". The tracklist for this album is: 01. Killing Joke 02. Crazy Mexican Scientists 03. Disco Sucks 04. Blackout 05. Hear you Scream On September the 5 th "The Critical Paparazzi EP" was officially released in a inaugural presentation for the Rockampeonato tour 2007. Kinky, Jumbo and Porter are also within the bands that will perform from September the 22 nd through November 24 th on the national tour which includes Tijuana, Monterrey, Distrito Federal, Guadalajara, Puebla, Hermosillo, and more. HKBO performed as part of Motorokr festival on October 19 th supporting bands like Incubus and The Killers. A second EP is planned for 2008 and possible touring in LA and Phoenix.
